Performing Jangchog, can help the deceased attain self-liberation, relieving the family to accept the fact.
From birth, we exhaust all resources to pursue health, curing all ills and preparing for elderly life. Yet, no one really knows how to face death. In fact, most people do not understand what death is all about and the ignorance of it keeps people off the topic. It is even considered as a taboo to talk about death in some culture. Oftentimes, we are in fear and lost when we have to face the dying of someone or the sudden death of our relatives. We don't know what we can do to help the deceased, not to mention about addressing our own emotions and doubts.
Since death is the inevitable end of our journey in this life, we should understand and prepare for it properly. With the right understanding about death, we can rid our fears of dying and set the right attitude to prepare for its coming. We can also render the appropriate assistance to others in need.
Below is a brief illustration of the process in five stages:
1. For those who just passed away, Jangchog gives an orientation to the deceased, helping to understand their situation, and what they will be experienced in the future. It helps to calm their emotions which prevents any negative deeds and also to beseech the guiding from the Bodhisattva to rebirth in the Western Pure Land.
2. For those who have already passed away for a long time or have been reincarnated, the puja reinforces the blessings of the Triple Gem and Bodhisattvas, enabling them to receive the merits dedicated by this family.
3. It is a merit to those who motivates to offer Jangchog to the deceased, as well as, to those who making the dedication also benefit from this generous act.
